Riverfest headlines the issue. After being cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic, Clarksville's favorite event returns for its 33rd annual celebration — an arts and recreation festival on the banks of the Cumberland River that draws more than 30,000 people, running 5pm to 10pm along the downtown riverfront. A companion “Years of Riverfest” feature looks back across the event's history as the community reunites.
“Sanctuary on Main” spotlights a collaboration between two local creative brands, ArtLink Clarksville and LOCAL Clarksville, teaming up to host an event celebrating and showcasing local artists, creators and small businesses — the best of the area's makers under one roof.
“Artsville” brings the celebration into the streets of historic downtown Clarksville, where everyone is invited to participate: ten chalking hubs are set up around the festival, and visitors can bring their own chalk or buy some on site to add to the collective, temporary artwork covering the pavement.
The issue captures a city coming back to life — a beloved 33-year festival returning to the river, artists collaborating across brands, and downtown sidewalks turned into a shared canvas — after a year when gathering itself had been impossible.
Around those features the issue carries its recurring local coverage, the businesses, history and community stories that anchor each month, giving September the feel of a long-awaited homecoming.
The recurring local coverage — the businesses, history and community stories that anchor each month — fills out an issue defined by return and reunion. After a year when gathering itself had been impossible, September 2021 reads like a homecoming: the river festival back, the artists collaborating, and downtown alive again with color and crowds.
