Joy Closet anchors the issue. With the need for foster-child care rising, founder and executive director Heather Gray started the nonprofit in 2021 to provide free items and services for children and foster families. The feature is specific about how to help: donation hours Monday and Thursday mornings and Saturday midday, free shopping hours across the week, and immediate needs ranging from financial support to clothing, shoes, hygiene products, baby essentials and bedding for children up to age 17. Based at 814 Belmont Street in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, Joy Closet serves nine counties across the Pennyrile region plus Clarksville-Montgomery County — a wide footprint for a nonprofit that lets foster families shop its shelves at no cost.
Oak Grove gears up for its 16th annual Spring into Summer Salutes Fort Campbell Festival, set for May 27–28, 2023 at the War Memorial Walking Trail Park and organized by the Oak Grove Tourism & Convention Commission. The free weekend offers live music — headlined by a country artist Rolling Stone called “a live legacy in the making” — along with carnival rides, games, arts and crafts, and food vendors.
The issue rounds out its coverage with a profile of Sprig & Spire and the lighter “Meet the Goobs.” And “One Intern's Experience at the State Capitol” gives a Clarksville student the floor for a first-hand account of a legislative session in Nashville — the committee rooms, the pace, and what the work of state government actually looks like from inside the building — a civics lesson delivered by someone close in age to many of the magazine's younger readers, and a rare inside view of how a bill actually moves.
